Ocean View Cottage in Private Setting 

Set back from the road at the end of a long private driveway, this charming vacation rental home features a large kitchen, separate dining room, living room and den with a pull out sofa. Painted with muted shades, the cottage radiates light. Picture windows in the living room and sliding patio doors in the dining room take full advantage of the harbour view. Upstairs are three bedrooms. The master bedroom spans the width of the house and has a queen size bed and a spectacular view of the blue waters of Shelburne Harbour. The second bedroom has a double bed while the third bedroom has two twin beds. There are two bathrooms: a 4-piece bathroom downstairs with a bath and a shower and a 3-piece bathroom upstairs with shower unit. Laundry facilities are also located upstairs. Comfortably furnished and decorated, Shipwright’s Cottage is suitable for a family with children; a group of friends getting together; or for a couple looking for an authentic maritime experience. Satellite television and high speed internet keep you connected to the modern world, while the deer in the back garden, sailboats on the harbour and ocean views are a constant reminder that you are “away from it all” in Nova Scotia. A large veranda extends the living space outside. Patio furniture and propane BBQ make for delightful evenings of seafood and ocean views. So, breathe in the fresh sea air and feel yourself relaxing into the peaceful rhythm of Nova Scotian life. 

Shipwright’s Cottage is located in the small fishing village of Gunning Cove situated on the western arm of Shelburne Harbour. It is approximately 15 minutes’ drive to the historic Loyalist town of Shelburne. Shelburne is renowned for is spectacular harbour, interesting museums, beautiful historic district, delightful restaurants, Marina and performing arts centre. 

Historically significant, Birchtown is a short 5- to 10-minute drive. Birchtown has the distinction of being the largest free Black community in British North America in the late 18th century. Birchtown’s Black Loyalist Heritage Centre Museum is dedicated to telling the difficult and heart wrenching story of the Black Loyalists – some of Canada’s first settlers – who landed in Port Roseway as part of the United Empire Loyalist when they evacuated from New York in 1783. 

Roseway Beach and Carleton Village Beach are both within a 10-minute drive. Shelburne is fifteen minutes away; Yarmouth is an hour away; while Lunenburg, Digby and Halifax are all pleasant day trips.
