The signs and exhibits on this trail tell the story of gold mining long before there was a park here. Relics demonstrate where and how the gold was mined, and local miners’ stories bring it all to life. The promise of gold is in the air!
Trailhead: Located off the Eel Weir Road
Significant Feature: Discover the remnants of old gold mining pits and learn the story of gold mining in the Kejimkujik region.
Length: 3 km (1.7 miles) return
Hiking Time: 30 minutes
The trails at Kejimkujik showcase an incredible variety of habitats, scenery and places of cultural and historical significance. Be responsible for your safety:
- Ensure that dogs are kept leashed and do not approach, disturb or feed wild animals
- Take along appropriate clothing and carry water with you, especially for longer trails, climbs or open barrens
- Bring insect repellent as black flies and mosquitoes are common all summer
- Stay on boardwalks and designated paths to protect fragile vegetation
